Transition Year in Coláiste Naomh Eoin is a unique experience. Students get to experience life on a Gaeltacht island, enriching their Irish skills which also participating a varied and exciting programme.
Transition Year students continue to study core subjects: Maths, Irish, English and French. They sample all senior cycle subjects available at the school and get to explore areas beyond the traditional school curriculum. These include journalism, TEFL and starting a small business to compete in a Dragon’s Den style competition.
Transition Year comprises of long term students and those who join us just for a year. In many cases, TY students enjoy their experience so much that they choose to remain with us for 5th and 6th year!

Work Experience & Life Skills
Work experience is a vital part of the Transition Year Programme. Students undertake several weeks of work experience which allows them to gain insight into future career choices.
Additionally students have the opportunity to develop life skills throughout Transition year. These include:
- Cooking
- Barista course
- ICT
- Driving Theory Test
- Activities focused on social and personal development
